Togolese startup PickApp is gearing up to make an impact in the electric vehicle (EV) sector with the launch of a pilot program for its unique ownership and ride-sharing platform in Lomé, the capital of Togo.
Founded in 2023 by siblings Joseph, Joshua, and Rebecca Olurin, PickApp aims to make electric vehicles accessible to more people by offering services designed to meet the rising demand for eco-friendly transportation.
At the heart of PickApp’s offering is its pay-as-you-go (PAYG) model. The feature lets users buy electric vehicles without needing to pay large upfront costs, making EV ownership possible for those who might otherwise find it too expensive.
Beyond ownership, PickApp also provides a mobile app for ride-sharing with electric vehicles, allowing users to book eco-friendly rides with ease.
To support this innovative approach, PickApp is working on setting up a network of electric charging stations throughout Togo.
These charging points will be located in key areas to make them easy to access. Joseph Olurin, CEO of PickApp, shared that their app does more than just car and ride-sharing—it also helps drivers and users locate, book, and pay for EV charging, offering a full solution for electric mobility.
The pilot program in Lomé is an important step for PickApp as it allows the company to test its services and get feedback from users.
This feedback will help them improve their offerings before rolling out to other cities across Africa. PickApp has set a big goal of bringing 1,000 electric vehicles to the region by 2030, which reflects their mission to drive Africa’s EV revolution while addressing urgent environmental and social challenges.
One of the key benefits of PickApp’s initiative is its potential to cut down on emissions and improve air quality in cities.
