OX Delivers, a UK-based electric mobility startup, has secured a $163 million contract to expand its operations in East Africa.
The multi-year deal establishes its first franchise partner, OX East Africa, and includes delivering a fleet of all-electric trucks along with access to OX’s technology platform and vehicle maintenance services.
The expansion is set to improve trade and offer sustainable transport solutions in the region.
The franchise will begin in Rwanda, where OX Delivery has already seen success, and extend into neighboring countries, including Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Burundi.
Simon Davis, co-founder and CEO of OX Delivery, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, noting it recognizes the company’s progress in Rwanda and opens opportunities to explore new markets and enhance services.
Since starting pilot operations in Rwanda in 2021, OX Delivers has grown rapidly. The company serves over 5,000 customers, mainly smallholder farmers and traders, many of whom have seen sales increase—some by up to five times—thanks to reliable transportation. This success showcases the impact of efficient transport on local businesses.
The OX electric truck is designed to tackle challenges in areas with poor infrastructure. Its flat-pack design allows for easy shipping and on-site assembly.
With a payload capacity exceeding 2,000 kg and a 150-km range on a single charge from its 74-kWh battery, the truck is durable and efficient.

OX Delivers states that operating costs are ten times lower than traditional vehicles, offering an affordable solution to high transportation costs.
The electric trucks are part of a larger effort to meet East Africa’s growing demand for reliable and affordable transportation.
The region’s expanding trade requires better logistics, and OX Delivers’ transport-as-a-service model allows customers to book space on trucks for quick, efficient goods transport.
This model has improved market access for local producers. Colin Tebbett, CEO of OX East Africa, highlighted the franchise’s potential to transform lives.
Many customers have shifted from inefficient options like bicycles and buses to using OX’s services, enabling faster and more reliable deliveries.
The new franchise plans to replicate this success across neighboring countries while continuing to support local economies.
As OX Delivers grows in East Africa, it remains focused on sustainability. The adoption of electric vehicles helps reduce carbon emissions associated with diesel trucks, aligning with global climate goals while delivering essential services to underserved communities.
In conclusion, the $163 million contract secured by OX Delivers goes beyond a business deal; it’s a step toward economic empowerment through sustainable transport in East Africa.
By improving trade logistics and offering affordable options, OX Delivers is set to reshape local economies and support development across the Global South.
The potential for transforming lives through reliable transport access is vast as they continue their expansion.
