USAID launches a $6M program for climate resilience efforts in Kenya. Climate change impacts in Kenya, particularly in rural areas, are significant, with recurring droughts and floods affecting the livelihoods of millions of people.

The region’s economy is largely dependent on rainfed agriculture and tourism, both of which are susceptible to climate variability and change.

The $6 million program focuses on small businesses and financial institutions in northern Kenya, with objectives that include improving access to water, supporting climate-smart agriculture, and promoting environmental conservation and climate change innovations.

The investment is part of a broader effort to enhance the resilience of off-grid solar energy solutions, which are crucial for providing reliable and affordable electricity in areas with limited grid connectivity.
